On October 11, I will begin a 6-month volunteer placement inTanzania!
Cuso International (https://cusointernational.org/) is a non-profit international development organization in both the US and Canada, working in over 40 countries around the world to improve the lives of people living with poverty and inequality around the globe through volunteers, partners and compassionate donors. Each year Cuso International mobilizes hundreds of professionals who volunteer side-by-side with local partners to create positive and lasting change. Lasting change requires not only a financial investment, but also a human investment. That’s why Cuso International shares skills, and improves lives. Cuso International is registered in the United States as "Friends of Cuso International".
The Tanzania Local Enterprise Development (T-LED) project supports small and medium sized business owners (SMEs) and farmers in overcoming the barriers they face in accessing the opportunities that the gas and agricultural sectors will bring in the coming years, with additional focus on supporting SMEs that are run by women.
Over the past 10 years, Tanzania’s economy has grown steadily, yet most citizens haven’t seen the benefits of this growth. With the recent discovery of gas, as well as new agricultural policies and increased foreign investments, the economy shows no sign of slowing down. This could spell “opportunity” for Tanzanian business owners.
The challenge? While there is growing demand for local suppliers and farmers, the current products and services on offer do not meet the requirements of international firms. In some cases, SMEs and farmers have been unable to capitalize on the markets created by the associate supply chains.
A partnership between Cuso International and private sector, civil society and government organizations within Tanzania, T-LED will help the keep the income generated by the burgeoning gas and agribusiness sectors in Tanzania.
Ultimately, T-LED will strengthen the capacity of local SMEs and farmers, giving them the tools, training and expertise they will need to fulfill the requirements of international firms. And when SMEs and farmers succeed, so do their employees, families and communities.
As part of my involvement with Cuso International, I am fundraising $2000 to help sustain their vital work and enable them to mobilize volunteers, like myself. I hope you will consider making a gift today in support of my campaign.
Right now, for every $1 you donate the Canadian Government will provide $9. That means a $25 contribution becomes $250 and a $100 gift becomes $1000!
Your donation is sincerely appreciated.
